METHODOLOGY: HOW QBCS IS BUILT

Passing creates 83% of Raw QBCS. Rushing creates 17%, but below-average rushing is treated as neutral so pocket passers are not penalized simply for playing a different style.

Beginning in 2026, each in-season snapshot is scored against that season’s current official qualifying quarterback field. Each snapshot’s totals are compared only with the same snapshot field—not with full-season prior-year production.

The original 2025 formula is preserved: rate metrics are stabilized toward league average based on sample size, while cumulative metrics such as Pass EPA and touchdowns are not paced to a 17-game season. Historical 2024 and 2025 ratings remain locked.

When a provider metric is unavailable and at least 90% of the final model remains, the available section weights are proportionally reweighted instead of treating the missing value as zero. For quarterbacks omitted from ESPN’s qualifying QBR leaderboard, season Total QBR is taken from the quarterback’s ESPN player page when ESPN publishes it there.

The published rating recalibrates Raw QBCS to a more intuitive sports-rating scale without changing the order.
