If you enjoyed the last meaningful NFL game in February, you are in luck: the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots square off in five days to start the 2026 campaign.
So, to get you ready for that Super Bowl rematch, we’re releasing our inaugural power rankings. The criteria are simple: the teams we fear the most on Sundays when contemplating a hypothetical matchup.
The Teams to Fear Most Entering Week 1

32. Arizona Cardinals
They kicked out Kyler Murray in favor of Jacoby Brissett, Carson Beck, and Gardner Minshew. Bold. This team screams first overall pick in 2027.
31. Cleveland Browns
Cleveland has assembled enough weirdness to remain entertaining. Until the quarterback situation stabilizes, the Browns belong near the bottom here again.
30. Miami Dolphins
Aside from the fascinating Malik Willis experiment, Miami’s roster is utter nothingness. The Dolphins could spend autumn discussing quarterbacks again by Halloween if Willis’s brief success in Green Bay was a mirage.
29. New York Jets
The Jets added veteran competence, which should prevent catastrophe. Unfortunately, the AFC does not hand out playoff spots for behaving professionally.
Aaron Glenn is on the hot seat.
28. Las Vegas Raiders
Kirk Cousins rides again as a placeholder for Fernando Mendoza. We shall see if there is a Maxx Crosby trade sweepstakes in two months.
27. Tennessee Titans
Cam Ward played worse than J.J. McCarthy last year, and nobody cared. The Titans have young talent worth watching, but expecting a playoff chase in 2026 feels wildly premature.
26. New York Giants
John Harbaugh will make this team better, but we must see it first to believe it. The Giants have enough defensive talent to annoy teams and enough offensive uncertainty to annoy themselves.
25. Carolina Panthers
Carolina is climbing, which is progress. The Panthers finally look functional, but functional and dangerous are different neighborhoods. Another year of growth feels more realistic. Thankfully, their division schedule strength is the opposite of the NFC North.
24. Atlanta Falcons
Michael Penix Jr. gives the Falcons upside, but until this operation wins consistently, the skepticism remains completely justified. Perhaps Kevin Stefanski will become the special sauce.
23. Indianapolis Colts
This feels like a season balanced on a trapdoor. The Colts could recapture their 8-2 start to the 2025 campaign – – or flop and fire Shane Steichen.
22. Washington Commanders
The Commanders belong in the messy middle for now because of their rapid fall from upstart grace. Reaching the NFC Championship in 2024 was bizarre.
21. New Orleans Saints
New Orleans is the fun sleeper. Kellen Moore has useful pieces and a manageable division. If the offense jumps, the Saints can steal January football. This one depends on Tyler Shough’s sophomore maturation.
20. Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh will probably drag everyone into ugly football and remain alive in December. That is basically organizational policy around there. The ceiling, however, is decidedly modest. Do you expect the Steelers to win the Super Bowl?
19. Dallas Cowboys
Dallas could win eleven games or become a weekly soap opera. Neither outcome would surprise anyone. They have the offensive firepower – – and rookie safety Caleb Downs.
18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Refusing to give Baker Mayfield an extension is strange, and Mike Evans finally left. It’s all or nothing for Todd Bowles this go-around.
17. Chicago Bears
The Bears were close-game savants in 2025, and that worked for them. So were the 2022 Vikings, and we know how they responded in 2023.
16. Minnesota Vikings
If Kyler Murray is efficient, the Vikings will cook and reach the postseason. If he gets hurt or doesn’t execute Kevin O’Connell’s offense well, it will be another 8-9 or 9-8 season.
15. Green Bay Packers
Jordan Love gives the Packers a playoff ceiling, but the NFC is crowded enough to make January anything but a shoo-in. This team has obtained the NFC’s seventh seed three years in a row. His nickname should be Jordan Seven Seed.
14. New England Patriots
The Patriots have enough structure and quarterback talent to stay relevant, even if regression arrives around the edges. But their 2025 schedule was historically easy, and the head coach went through some shenanigans this offseason. A downturn could be coming. The Super Bowl runner-up hangover is real.
13. Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence has enough help now, and he looked great at times in 2025. This season will prove if head coach Liam Coen is the real deal.
12. Houston Texans
The defense is fantastic, while the world wonders if C.J. Stroud will ever rekindle his rookie flair.
11. Los Angeles Chargers
Justin Herbert plus a sweet roster equals a contender. The Chargers simply need January to stop turning into a horror movie. Right about now is when Jim Harbaugh’s teams hit peak form, based on his resume.
10. Cincinnati Bengals
Give Joe Burrow average protection and something resembling reasonable defense, and the Bengals can beat anybody again.
9. Denver Broncos
The defense travels, and Bo Nix keeps improving. Sean Payton rarely leads bad teams. Another playoff trip feels very likely.
8. Kansas City Chiefs
This team will roar back. Watch.
7. Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles still have championship bones. Betting against that roster because of one imperfect 2025 regular season and 2026 offseason seems pretty foolish. But if Philadelphia struggles, the Nick Sirianni era will likely end in January.
6. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are navigating several mini-scandals. We shall see if they block them out when the rubber hits the road.
5. Detroit Lions

Detroit’s roster remains glorious. The offense and defense showcase a plethora of big names, and the 2025 disappointment probably won’t last.
4. Seattle Seahawks
Can Sam Darnold stay a Top 12 or Top 15 quarterback? We already know the Seahawks’ defense will be legitimate. No Kenneth Walker II hurts, but give Jadarian Price a shot.
3. Baltimore Ravens
Jesse Minter inherits a magnificent situation and at least a year or two of Lamar Jackson’s prime. The time is now.
2. Buffalo Bills
Is this the year? We repeat: is this the year? What would the narrative be if Josh Allen just never reached the Super Bowl?
1. Los Angeles Rams
The 1992 Olympic Dream Team – – is all you need to know here.

VikesNow Verdict: The Rams start on top, and Arizona owns the basement. Minnesota lands squarely in the middle – – go figure, right? If Murray works, the Vikings can climb in a jiffy.
